Talon Windwalker has many distinctions, single parent, author, writer, former hospice chaplain, Zen monk, ultra runner, to name just a few. This week though, he is the Worldschooler of the Week. He has been traveling full time with his daughter since 2011 enjoying a digital nomad lifestyle and a Worldschooling philosophy. They live life on their own terms, traveling slowly from place to place and using the world around them as their classroom. 1. How long have you been traveling?
2. What kind of schooling do you do?
We do what we call Worldschooling which uses Unschooling principles.
3. What does your kid love most about travel?
Seeing new things and meeting new people.
4. What is one travel hack you would pass on to fellow travelers?
Most people don’t seem to know about the wonderful site http://rome2rio.com which is super helpful when planning travel routes and deciding the best way to go (although don’t rely on their airfare figures as they’re usually off).
5. What does the term Worldschooling mean to you?
Using traveling the world and all the intricacies of travel to educate your child. They learn from experiencing things. Instead of learning about the Mayan ruins in a book, they walk among them. You learn about a culture by living in it. It’s taking advantages of teaching and learning moments throughout the day rather than just during a set block of time.
6. What words do you live by?
Vivez sans regrets! (Live without regrets!) It’s our family motto and drives our decisions. I want to have a life of shared memories rather than spending time thinking about the things I didn’t get to do.
7. Do you consider yourselves rebels?
I guess in a way we are. We’re definitely not conformists and choose to live life on our own terms.
8. Where can people find you?
Find Worldschoolers near you all over the globe for play dates, meet ups and adventure. Create a profile today and add your current location to our map. Direct message families near you to connect. Worldschooler Connect!
